Sereni, meeting with Commissioner Várhelyi

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Marina Sereni met today in Brussels with European Commission Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Olivér Várhelyi. The talks focused on relations between Europe and the Mediterranean countries.

“It is essential that the European Union maintains a priority focus on relations with the countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean. The Southern Neighbourhood represents a strategic priority, to which to devote maximum political importance and adequate resources”, said Sereni at the end of the meeting.

The Vice Minister is engaged in a two-day visit to the Belgian capital, which will see her today and tomorrow meet many political representatives and senior officials of the European Union. On the agenda in the afternoon are meetings with the Director General of DG Near Danielsson, the Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Council Maryem van den Heuvel and the Deputy Secretary-General of the EU External Action Service Stefano Sannino.
