Vice Minister Emanuela Del Re had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Kenya, Raychelle Omamo, which touched on many aspects of relations between the two countries, both bilaterally and in the multilateral context. LM Omamo expressed her country’s great appreciation for the way Italy has managed the serious pandemic emergency, representing a model for the whole world. Omamo has therefore made a state of the current delicate situation in Kenya with an increase in contagion. The Vice Minister confirmed the attention and concrete help of Italy in the development cooperation activities.
The two reviewed the Italian-Kenyan partnership in economic and financial matters, in the space sector and the collaboration between their respective police forces. In this regard, a number of outstanding issues were discussed with the respective commitment to ensure that they are resolved in order to improve the already excellent framework of bilateral relations.
Del Re therefore congratulated Kenya on the recent election of Kenya to the UN Security Council; in this regard, Minister Omamo confirmed her willingness to work for effective multilateralism, and for the Council’s affirmation in the defence of peace, security and the promotion of human rights, relying on the help of friendly countries such as Italy. Still in the multilateral sphere, Minister Omamo formally presented the candidature of the Kenyan Amina Mohamed for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
