Del Re in Niger. Signed an agreement for the Italian military contingent

During her visit to Niger, Vice Minister Del Re was received by the President of the Republic Mahamadou Issoufou. It was a very fruitful meeting on several dossiers: bilateral Italy-Niger relations and regional issues, including Libya, Mali, and Sahel. Vice Minister Del Re and the President of the Republic fully agreed on the Italy-Niger partnership. The partnership is to be further consolidated both in the various sectors in which cooperation is already active and fruitful and in new areas of intervention to be developed.

“I reiterated to President Issoufou how much Italy considers Niger a strategic partner: we appreciate Niger’s role at the international and regional level, and we intend to strengthen cooperation and collaboration in the political, economic, military and cultural fields” – said Del Re.

This morning, Vice Minister Del Re, together with the Niger Foreign Minister, Ankourao, attended the ceremony for the exchange of verbal notes concerning the presence of the Italian military contingent, MISIN. The relative negotiations were finalised yesterday during the meeting between the two representatives.

Before leaving for Italy onboard the Air Force flight used to transport humanitarian aid for the population offered by the Italian cooperation in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, Vice Minister Del Re visited the Italian military contingent of the MISIN Mission. MISIN is the most important Italian military mission in sub-Saharan Africa. It is deployed since 2018 with the task of training Niger’s armed forces in counterterrorism and border control as part of its participation in the G5 Sahel Joint Force.
