The visit of the Vice Minister Del Re in Niger who, this morning, took part in the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the memorial of the martyrs of terrorism in Niamey together with the President of Niger Issoufou continues. “Italy supports the efforts and the actions to fight against terrorism everywhere in the world. We are committed at the international level to tackle terrorism from multiple perspectives – said Del Re – The partnership with Niger in this field is getting stronger every day also thanks to our military training and assistance mission, MISIN, present in the country”.
Afterward, the Vice Minister personally delivered in the hands of the Minister for Humanitarian Action and Disaster Management of Niger, Magagi Laouan, the humanitarian material transported yesterday by the Italian Cooperation Humanitarian Flight, operated in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence/Command Of Joint Operation (COI). The flight transported first aid and emergency material in response to the exceptional floods that affected about 500,000 people in the Country. The humanitarian material consists of tents, latrines, mosquito nets, water tanks. Minister Laouan thanked the Government and the Italian people for yet another gesture of solidarity (since 2018, 10 humanitarian flights of the Italian Cooperation have been operated). Vice Minister Del Re said: “It is not only a gesture of solidarity but of true brotherhood between our countries; a common destiny bounds us”.
Further talks took place in the afternoon with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism and the Minister of the Plan. It was decided to immediately start negotiations for the renewal of the framework agreement for development cooperation between the two countries and to organize meetings on bilateral economic relations as soon as possible.
