Vice Minister Del Re in conversation with the United Kingdom’s European Neighbourhood Minister

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met by videoconference with Wendy Morton, Minister for the European Neighbourhood, and the Americas of the United Kingdom.

The conversation focused on collaboration opportunities between the two countries on issues of common interest in the various multilateral fora. Del Re and Morton discussed the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, from the health and economic perspective, and the collaboration mechanisms in development cooperation. Specifically, regarding Africa, it was agreed on the need to strengthen the operational coordination to support the continent’s resilience to the crisis and its social and economic development.

Concerning Tigray’s situation, Vice Minister Del Re and her interlocutor expressed their concern about the humanitarian crisis and the need to make the necessary humanitarian corridors for the aid to civilian victims operational as soon as possible. As for Somalia, Del Re drew Morton’s attention to the support programmes to further strengthen the Somali National University of Mogadishu, which the Italian cooperation has supported since its establishment in 1969. At the end of the meeting, Morton thanked Vice Minister Del Re for having announced Italy’s participation in the Media Freedom Coalition.
