Azerbaijan, Di Stefano at the Web Mission on reconstruction

This morning, Deputy Minister Di Stefano opened a Web Mission on urban planning, the first sectoral Italian-Azerbaijani collaboration initiative for the reconstruction of the districts that returned under Azerbaijani control in November 2020, as part of a strategic partnership aimed at consolidating its achievements in the coming years in many fields of cooperation.

The Web Mission is a follow-up to the visit by the Deputy Minister last December in Azerbaijan and the first sectoral in-depth study within the framework of the economic cooperation initiative launched on 22 February, which will continue in the coming weeks in other sectors, beginning with restoration.

The event was also attended by Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, who co-chairs the Italy-Azerbaijan Joint Committee with Deputy Minister Di Stefano.

“Italian companies, said the Deputy Minister, coordinated by the Foreign Ministry, are ready to help out in the reconstruction of the Azerbaijani districts that have returned under the full control of Azerbaijan, providing their skills in urban planning, restoration and development, green energy, smart cities, as well as the protection of the artistic, cultural and religious heritage.”

The event was attended by the OICE (Association of Engineering and Technical Economic Consultancy Organisations) and other select specialist companies.

“Today we are taking an important step forward in our civil cooperation with Azerbaijan, which we consider a best practice in which the private sector has the support of the State to grasp business opportunities and contribute to the reconstruction of a country. A Memorandum of Understanding, which will shortly be signed, will provide the appropriate institutional framework for this fruitful cooperation that will last for years” – the Deputy Minister concluded.
