Deputy Minister Di Stefano chairs the second Digital Geopolitics Steering Committee meeting

This afternoon, Deputy Minister Manlio Di Stefano chaired the second meeting of the Steering Committee on Digital Geopolitics, following the first meeting held in November 2020.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the main government departments involved, namely, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry for Economic Development, Ministry of Digital Transition, Department of European Policies.

“Today, digital technology is the cross-sector system par excellence of the contemporary world, permeating all the ethical, industrial and regulatory issues we are called on to tackle on a daily basis, which is why we need to address it at a political level to define an Italian position that can then be projected into the main international fora and, above all, that can place us at the forefront at the European level,” the Deputy Minister said in his opening address.

“Connectivity, cloud, big data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, international law and cyberspace: today, it has become essential to get a handle on and regulate all these aspects according to a strategic perspective, before we are absolutely overwhelmed. Moreover, these issues need to be addressed as a whole, with due regard for our national interest. This is why it is so important to build a national and European way to digital development, capable of making our continent self-sufficient and at the forefront of the strategic aspects that are vital for our future”, he concluded.
