Italy’s keen satisfaction with the appointment of Hon. Del Re as EU Special Representative for the Sahel

Italy warmly welcomes the appointment of Hon. Emanuela Claudia Del Re to the position of EU Special Representative for the Sahel.
During her period of office as Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Del Re has followed with great passion and effectiveness the African continent and, in particular, the Sahel region both at bilateral and European levels, in the framework of the new EU Strategy for the Sahel.
Besides rewarding Hon. Del Re’s recognised competence, this appointment testifies the ever higher profile role played by Italy in a geographical area that has become strategic for the security of the whole of Europe.
During its Presidency of the G-20 and as co-chair of COP26, Italy will organise high-level events about Africa in 2021 and include the fight against terrorism and instability in the Sahel region among the central issues of the Anti-Daesh Coalition Ministerial Meeting that will take place in our country at the end of June.
