FOREIGN MINISTRY NOTE – Minister Di Maio meets with the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdelhamid Dabaiba

On his sixth mission to Libya since the beginning of the year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, met today in Tripoli with the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdelhamid Dabaiba, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference on the Stabilisation of Libya.

Minister Di Maio confirmed the absolute importance for Italy of the partnership with Libya. He also expressed his appreciation for the conference organised by Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangush, which significantly points to Libya’s willingness to progress towards the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, in conjunction with the United Nations.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Italy’s determination to work with the Libyan authorities and with all other State entities to support the next stages of the political process and its two most immediate priorities: the holding of elections on 24 December, to ensure lasting stabilisation and development in the country, and the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign fighters from the country.

Finally, Minister Di Maio and Prime Minister Dabaiba discussed the main dossiers of the bilateral relationship, including trade, infrastructure and migration cooperation.
