Visit of the Secretary-General Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi to the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, today visited the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the appointment of the new Head of the Unit, Embassy Counsellor Nicola Minasi.

Operative 24/7, the Crisis Unit protects and assists compatriots in emergencies and in particular in cases of terrorism, socio-political tensions (coups, civil war, other forms of generalised violence); natural disasters (hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes); serious health emergencies and pandemics; terrorist kidnappings; acts of piracy and air disasters.

Ambassador Sequi thanked all the staff (about 30 people, including diplomatic officials and technical-administrative personnel) for their exceptional work, especially during the most acute period of the pandemic. In that period, the Crisis Unit, in close collaboration with the entire diplomatic-consular network, organised 1,187 return operations and brought home more than 112,000 compatriots from 121 countries in emergencies – and lastly, for their front-line commitment in the evacuation operations from Afghanistan last August.

Always at the forefront in terms of technology, the Crisis Unit updates and makes available to compatriots the following IT platforms: the ViaggiareSicuri website – the institutional portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that provides information, travel advice and alerts for breaking news; the DoveSiamoNelMondo portal, dedicated to the registration of trips abroad, intended for all Italian citizens as well as the world of business, education and solidarity. Both portals are also available in a single App compatible with the leading operating systems.

We wish Councillor Nicola Minasi all the best in his work
