The Farnesina’s Directorate General for Country Promotion has organised, jointly with the Ministry for the Economy and Finance and ICE-Agenzia (the Italian Trade Agency), a seminar entitled “The Multilateral Development Banks come to Italy”. The event took place on 10 November 2022 at Rimini Fiera, in the framework of the “Ecomondo” and “Key Energy” expos. These are the most important fairs in Europe for technological and industrial innovation in the sustainability and renewable energy sectors.

Ambassador Lorenzo Angeloni, Director General for Country Promotion, spoke at the event, highlighting the actions undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to support the internationalisation of the economic system. Ambassador Angeloni also illustrated the as yet unexplored opportunities for Italy’s small and medium-sized enterprises in terms of the funds provided by the multilateral development banks (World Bank, African Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank).

“There are many roads to make the Italian economy more international: winning new market shares, acquisitions abroad, inward investment and taking part in the projects of the Multilateral Development Banks”, observed the Ambassador. The last option is “a more complex and perhaps less well-known route, but it is an excellent and major opportunity to develop a better understanding of the procedures required for inclusion in a hugely important flow with regard to the capacity of our companies, which are already competitive in many sectors in the international network”, he continued. The Ambassador also underscored that in terms of the public support system and the country’s business fabric “we have the instruments that are needed to compete at the international level”.
