Amendment: Seminar: Digital Media in War Zones

On Thursday 21 March 2013 Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi will be speaking at the seminar on “Digital Media in War Zones”, organised by the Foreign Ministry in collaboration with Wired Italia. The seminar will begin at 9.00 in the International Conference Hall, with Minister Terzi’s address scheduled to begin at 9.10 and not 10.30, as previously announced. Please note the amended press arrival times below.

Digital strategy experts will discuss the question of information in geographically distant regions. Regions which are, however, perceived by many Italians as being close to us, thanks to the documents and posts written by military personnel on mission there and by aid workers, journalists and bloggers. Today’s digital media make it possible to report events “live”, along with the stories of the people directly experiencing dramatic conflicts. The seminar will examine the role of the new media, which, unlike the traditional mass media, provide us with totally “unintermediated” information.

Journalists, photographers and TV crews interested in following the opening addressed should use the online accreditation system by completing the interactive form available at http://mae.accreditationsystem.info/ITA/Indice.asp. All required documentation not already submitted must be attached to the form in digital format. This includes a letter from their media organisation and, for foreign journalists in Italy, a note verbale.

If it is not possible to complete the online accreditation procedure, applications should be sent by fax to the Foreign Ministry’s Press and Institutional Communication Service (tel. 06/3691.3432 – fax 06/3691.2122)

Accredited media representatives should use the main entrance of the Foreign Ministry (Visitors’ Reception) from 8.15 of Thursday 21 March and no later than 8.45.
