ACCREDITATION NOTICE: Ministerial session of the Energy Segment of the Italy-Africa Initiative (Farnesina, 13 and 14 October 2014)

The Farnesina will host the ministerial session of the Energy Segment of the Italy-Africa Initiative on 13 and 14 October within the framework of the Italian duty presidency of the Council of the EU. Participants will include the energy ministers of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.


A technical workshop entitled “Dialogue forum with the Private Sector in the off-grid renewable energy market” will be held at 14:00 on Monday 13 October with the collaboration of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership, for which Italy is co-president. At 9:00 on Tuesday 14 October, the Ministerial Conference “Italy-Africa, working together for a sustainable energy future” will include the premier presentation of the Africa Energy Outlook section of the International Energy Agency’s authoritative “World Energy Outlook”


Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mario Giro, Deputy Minister for Economic Development Claudio De Vincenti and EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs will open the conference, and Minister for the Environment Gian Luca Galletti will also participate (see linked programme).


The energy-environment segment of the Italy-Africa Initiative has the purpose of analysing prospects for investment in electrical power generation and the development of delivery networks and renewable sources, both decisive factors in the sustainable development of the African continent. The goal is to strengthen the presence of our firms in those sectors and share our experience with our African partners.

– attach all required documentation (if not already submitted) to the form, in digital format

– a letter from your media organisation


– for foreign journalists in Italy: a note verbale issued by the Embassy in Rome of your media organisation’s country.


If you are unable to complete the online accreditation procedure, please send your applicationby fax, on your media organisation’s letterhead, to the Foreign Ministry’s Press and Institutional Communication Service (tel. 06/3691.3432-8573-8210).


Accredited members of the press will be admitted at the rear entrance to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Via Macchia della Farnesina – according to the following timetable:


Monday 13 October at 13:15 (technical workshop)


Tuesday 14 October at 8:15 (ministerial conference)
