The Farnesina will host the International Conference “Italy and future challenges to global health” on Thursday 5 March at 9:30 chaired by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Lapo Pistelli.
The Global Fund, an innovative mechanism by which to combat disease in the world’s poorest countries, currently provides 21% of international funding for the fight against AIDS, 50% for the fight against malaria and 82% for the fight against tuberculosis. Italy promoted the creation of the Fund and has been a strong supporter with contributions of over one billion dollars, and a pledge of 100 million euro for the 2014-2016 triennial. Departing from Italy’s renewed commitment to the Fund, the conference, whose participants will include representatives from political and institutional sphered, international organisations and the civil society, will tackle the problem of challenges to global health in the future.
Other attendees will include Minister for Health Lorenzin (with a prerecorded video message), President of the International Cooperation Parliamentary Group Lia Quartapelle, President of Friends for Global Fund Europe Laurent Vigier and Executive Director of the Global Fund Mark Dybul.
