ACCREDITATION NOTICE – Reminder: “Freedom of Religion or Belief: promoting peaceful coexistence through human rights” Conference (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 8 November)

On Tuesday, 8th November 2016, at 9.30, the Aldo Moro Conference Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the “Freedom of Religion or Belief: promoting peaceful coexistence through human rights” Conference organised by IDLO (International Development Law Organization) with the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The IDLO Report “Freedom of Religion or Belief and the Law: current dilemmas and lessons learned”, which is the result of a project funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Directorate General for Development Cooperation, will be presented during the conference. The study is intended to contribute to the international debate about the principles of religious tolerance and equality, which form the basis for protecting the right to religious freedom or belief in different national legal systems.

The event will be split into two sessions:

The first session (9.30-11.00), open to the press, will be introduced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, with presentations by the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the Chairman of the Lantos Foundation for human rights and justice and the former president of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, Katrina Lantos Swett and the Director General of IDLO, Irene Khan. The session will be moderated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Director General for Development Cooperation, Pietro Sebastiani;

The second session (11.15-12.30), of a technical nature, will be moderated by Professor of Law and Religion at the University of Milan, Silvio Ferrari, and will be closed to the press.

Journalists, photographers and TV crews interested in following the first session are requested to apply for accreditation by completing the interactive form and selecting the event they are interested in at the link http://mae.accreditationsystem.info/ITA/Indice.asp, attaching, unless already provided, the information requested in digital format (letter from the media organisation and, for representatives of foreign media, also a Nota Verbale issued by the Embassy in Rome of the media organisation’s country).

Accredited journalists, photographers and TV crews may access the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the main entrance, left-hand side, between 9.00 and 9.30.
