On Thursday, 18 May 2017, from 3 to 5:40 p.m., the Farnesina will host an event on sustainable food systems in the 21st century and agroecological alternatives, “Building the sustainable food systems of the 21st Century: the agroecological alternative”, co-organised by the Italian Development Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Systems – IPES Food.
“It is important that the very-high level meeting on the promotion of new food production models, aiming to assure food security to the world’s growing population without however neglecting the protection of biodiversity and of the environment, be held precisely at the Farnesina tomorrow,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, who continued to say: “This is why Italy now encourages the debate over the search of agroecologically diversified systems as the instrument through which to continue, over the coming years, a battle which is crucial for us: eradicating hunger.”

The Conference will open with greetings by the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova.

The programme of the event includes contributions by Olivier De Schutter (Co-president of IPER Food), Emile Frison (IPES-Food), Alexander Müller (TEEB-AgriFood Study Leader), Jose Graziano da Silva (Director General, FAO), Gilbert F.
