REMINDER

PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTE

“La qualità che illumina: l’energia del design per le persone e per l’ambiente”

7th edition of the Italian Design Day

Farnesina – Wednesday 8 March 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

On Wednesday 8 March 2023 at 5:00 p.m., the presentation of the 7th edition of the Italian Design Day (IDD) entitled “La qualità che illumina: l’energia del design per le persone e per l’ambiente” (Enlightening quality. The energy of design for people and environment) will be held at the Farnesina, in the International Conference Hall.

The event – moderated by Interni Magazine journalist, Patrizia Catalano, and opened by Director General for Promotion of the Italian Economic System, Lorenzo Angeloni – will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Director General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Onofrio Cutaia, together with qualified representatives of the Italian design industry, including designer Patricia Urquiola, the President of Triennale Milano Stefano Boeri, the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI), Salone del Mobile di Milano, as well as ICE – Italian Trade Agency, which specialises in promoting the internationalisation of Italian companies.

The Italian Design Day is an event conceived to promote Italian design abroad, to support exports and the internationalisation of companies in this sector, to foster international know-how and exchange of technical and creative skills, as well as to increase incoming tourist flows. To this end, during this annual celebration, the network of Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes and ICE offices organise a number of promotional initiatives specifically tailored to the needs of each individual location.

This 7th edition will focus on quality, understood as the ability to conceive and create products that combine aesthetic and functional needs using production processes that respect the environment and people’s health. The conference presenting the event will therefore be an opportunity for a joint reflection on the theme chosen for this year and thus on the more topical meaning to be attributed to this concept, with respect to the great challenges of current times, such as the possibility for sustainable growth and the need for a circular economy. This year, particular attention will also be devoted to the lighting and lighting technology sectors.

Since its first edition in 2017, more than a thousand events have already been organised as part of the initiative by the Italian Ministry’s network around the world, with over 470 designers, architects, entrepreneurs, academics and specialised journalists involved. Among the initiatives planned for the 2023 edition, there will be an exhibition conceived by Interni entitled “Light on Made in Italy”, which will present Italian know-how through the stories of a collection of companies and designers who have been able to imbue talent and innovation in their original, high-quality products. This year, 98 of the best-known and most qualified professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and specialised journalists will share their experiences and knowledge with the public in 112 foreign venues that are part of the MAECI network, highlighting the distinctive and original traits that render Italian design appreciated and recognised all over the world.

Journalists, photographers and cameramen will be able to attend in person. The event will also be live streamed on the YouTube channel of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
