PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTE
“Fabbricare valore – inclusività, innovazione e sostenibilità”
8th Italian Design Day in the World
Foreign Ministry – 14 March 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
The event for presenting the 8th Italian Design Day in the World, entitled “Fabbricare valore – Inclusività, innovazione e sostenibilità (Producing Value – Inclusiveness, Innovation and Sustainability” – promoted and organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity, in collaboration with Fondazione ADI Compasso d’Oro, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, Triennale Milano, Salone del Mobile, Federlegno Arredo and Agenzia ICE – Italian Trade & Investment Agency – will be held at the Foreign Ministry, International Conference Hall, on Thursday 14 March 2024 at 10. 00 a.m.
The event – moderated by Francesca Santambrogio, Editorial Director for AD Italia – will be attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Undersecretary for Culture, Lucia Borgonzoni, together with authoritative representatives from the Italian production chain of the ‘design’ sector, including the President of ICE-Agenzia, Matteo Zoppas; the President of Triennale, Stefano Boeri; the President of Salone del Mobile di Milano, Maria Porro; designer Mario Cucinella, and the President of the Association for Industrial Design (ADI), Luciano Galimberti.
The Italian Design Day is an event conceived to promote Italian design abroad; support exports and the internationalisation of companies in this sector; spread awareness of the technical and creative skills of our business operators and attract incoming tourist flows. This time again, the network of Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes and ICE offices will organise a series of promotional initiatives, specially designed for each location.
The theme of this year’s Italian Design Day is in ideal continuity with the previous one. While, in 2023, the focus was on the quality of the final product, in 2024 the intention is to emphasise the production process, which leads to the creation of industrial design objects that are ‘beautiful’ from an aesthetic viewpoint, but also of high “material” value, as a result of quality raw materials and manufacturing processes that combine tradition and craftsmanship with technology and environmental sustainability, thus reaffirming Italy’s manufacturing and production supremacy. This edition also intends to convey a message of “inclusion”: the Italian design object, in fact, does not want to address a niche of customers, but is intended for a wide audience of informed buyers.
Since its inception in 2017, the event has already seen over 1,200 initiatives organised worldwide by the Foreign Ministry’s network, with the involvement of over 570 designers, architects, entrepreneurs, academics and specialised journalists. The initiatives scheduled for 2024 include an exhibition conceived and curated by Skira editore entitled 100 Vasi, which will be presented in numerous countries, providing an overview of one of the most common and widespread – and at the same time most iconic and long-lived – design objects of Italian manufacture.
This year, 93 of the best-known and most qualified professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and specialised journalists will share their experience and knowledge with the public in 100 Locations of the MAECI network abroad, bringing out the distinctive and original features that make Italian design appreciated and recognised on all continents.
Journalists, photographers and cameramen can follow the works in-person. The event will also be streamed live on the Farnesina YouTube channel.
The journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in attending the event in-person may apply for accreditation by sending a request by 13 March at 6:00 p.m. to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 8573 or 3078), attaching the following:
