Plenary Assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad
Rome, 19-21 June 2024
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani will speak at the Plenary Assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE) on Wednesday 19 June, at 11:00 a.m. His speech will be streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be open to the participation of the press.
The Plenary Assembly of the CGIE will continue until 21 June 2024 in the International Conference Room at the Farnesina.
The General Council of Italians Abroad is the advisory body to the Italian Government and Parliament on major issues of interest to Italians abroad and meets at least once a year. Among its many duties, the CGIE aims to foster and facilitate the improvement of the living conditions of Italian communities abroad and strengthen their ties with Italy, as well as to ensure the most effective protection of the rights of Italians abroad, facilitate the safeguarding of their cultural and linguistic identity and promote their economic and commercial initiatives. Made up of 63 councillors, 20 of whom appointed by the Government and 43 elected to represent Italian communities, the CGIE is chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Plenary Assembly will be open from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 June morning to journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in attending the event may apply for accreditation by sending a request by Tuesday 18 June at 5:00 p.m. to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 3078, 8210 o 8573), attaching the following:
For representatives of Italian press organisations:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter – copy of professional identity card.
For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
- Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.
For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.
Accredited journalists, photographers and cameramen may enter the Farnesina:
from the main entrance, left side
- Wednesday 19 June, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. –
to follow Minister Tajani’s statement, preceded by a speech in memory of Secretary General Michele Schiavone.
from the central entrance, right side (Guest Room) – for the Assembly
- Wednesday, 19 June, from 2:30 p.m.
- Thursday, 20 June, from 9:00 a.m.
- Friday 21 June, from 9:00 a.m.
Kindly specify for which days of the Plenary Assembly accreditation is required.
