Inauguration of the Unified Patent Court seat

On Monday 1 July 2024, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, the Italian Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, and the Italian Deputy Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Valentino Valentini, will inaugurate the seat of the Milan Central Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), together with the President of the Court of Appeal and chairperson of the Presidium of the Unified Patent Court, Klaus Grabinski.

The opening session, which will start at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Hall of Palace of Justice and will be moderated by Marina Tavassi, Coordinator of the Technical Committee for the Milan Unified Patent Court, will be attended by Ministers Tajani and Nordio and Deputy Minister Valentini. Greetings will also be given by the President of the Milan’s Court of Appeal, Giuseppe Ondei, the President of the Milan Bar Association, Antonino La Lumia, the President of the Milan Court of Justice, Fabio Roia, the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan-Monza-Brianza-Lodi and Confcommercio Milano, Carlo Sangalli, the President of the Order of Italian Industrial Property Consultants, Anna Maria Bardone, and the President of Assolombarda, Alessandro Spada, as well as the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana.

At the end of the institutional session (12:30 p.m.), the Inauguration Ceremony of the Milan Central Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) will be held at the building in Via San Barnaba 50, in the presence of the Authorities involved.

At the end of the ceremony, press statements will follow.

Only the opening session will be streamed live on the Farnesina YouTube channel and on the social media channels of the Milan Bar Association.

Journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in attending the opening session, the inauguration ceremony and the press statements may apply for accreditation by sending a request by Friday 28 June at 5:00 p.m. to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 8573 – 3078 or 8210) and a copy to Cosentino@ordineavvocatimilano.it, attaching the following:

For representatives of Italian press organisations:

  • copy of an identity document;
  • letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter – copy of professional identity card.

For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • copy of an identity document;
  • letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
  • Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.

For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.

The accredited press will have access to:

  • The Palace of Justice, Porta Vittoria main entrance, Largo Marco Biagi 1 – from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
  • The Central Court of the Palace, Via San Barnaba 50 – at 12:15 p.m.
