ACCREDITATION NOTE UPDATE
Inaugural Ministerial Meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group in Rome
(Farnesina, November 6th, 2024)
On Wednesday, 6 November 2024, the inaugural ministerial meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG) will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Co-organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Italy, the meeting will see governments, executives from public and private institutions, and investors join forces in paving the way for this promising technology to provide the abundant clean energy the world needs to meet its growing development needs.
The meeting will begin at 10:00 with welcome remarks by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, followed with opening remarks, by IAEA Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Afterwards, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will make brief statements to the press.
A family photo will be taken in the Mosaic Room (across from the International Conference Room) before the meeting.
Around 1:30 p.m., a joint press conference of the IAEA Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi and the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin is scheduled to be held in the Aldo Moro Hall, which will be the listening room for the Press.
Following the press conference, the proceedings will resume with speeches by the Heads of the participating Delegations.
The meeting will be livestreamed on the Farnesina YouTube channel.
At the event, the IAEA will launch two publications, “Fusion Key Elements” and the “World Fusion Outlook 2024”. The WFEG meeting will also feature three panel discussions on the status of fusion energy; global collaboration and public-private partnerships; and sustaining resources and exploring alternative business opportunities.
Journalists, including photographers and videographers, interested in attending the event in person can send their accreditation request no later than 4:00 pm on 5 November 2024 via email to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 8210 – 8573 or 3078), by providing the following:
For representatives of the Italian press:
- copy of identity document;
- letter of appointment from the press organisation they represent or – in the absence of the latter – a copy of the professional card.
For representatives of foreign press organization not accredited at the Farnesina:
- copy of identity document;
- letter from the media you belong to;
- Verbal Note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the represented press organization.
For foreign press representatives already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent along with a copy of an identity document.
Due to space requirements, it will be possible to accredit 1 journalist, 1 photographer and/or 1 cameraman per newspaper or agency. According to the requests received, it may become necessary to form pools of photographers for photo opportunities, and of cameramen.
Accredited Press may enter the Farnesina from the Via Macchia della Farnesina entrance, from 8:15 a.m. to no later than 09:00 a.m.
For requests to position satellite vehicles, the number plates and model must be communicated by e-mail to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06/3691.3432-8210-8573-8210) no later than Tuesday, 5 November at 5:00 p.m. The vehicles will be positioned from the morning of Wednesday 6 November.
