Yerevan plays host to an exhibition entitled ‘Bernini and the Roman Baroque. Masterpieces from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia’, which showcases 55 works of art of prominent artists of the Roman Baroque. The exhibition, which opened today and is due to run until 18 February, 2019, is included among the events of the European Year of Cultural Heritage and also pays tribute to Armenia, marking the 100th Anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia in 1918. “It is the first time that so many Italian masterpieces are on display in Armenia. This is a major event for our country,” said the Armenian Deputy Minister of Culture, Tigran Galstyan, when inaugurating the exhibition. The Italian Ambassador to Armenia, Vincenzo Del Monaco, highlighted the importance of culture with regard to the enhancement of the relations between Italy and Armenia. Ambassador Del Monaco also reminded all participants in the ceremony of the official visit that the Italian President Sergio Mattarella made to Armenia at the end of July last, and underlined that “2018 stands out as milestone in the relations between Italy and Armenia.”
