Italian Embassy in London hosts a Round Table on NATO

Sources of Instability in the South and NATO”, the title of a round table hosted at the Italian Embassy in London, tackled the key issues of the stability of the Mediterranean and the role of NATO. The Round Table was promoted by the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the British Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defence and falls within the framework of the strategic bilateral dialogue launched by the Secretaries-General of the two Ministries last March.

Moreover, the meeting put forth some considerations ahead of the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government to mark the Organization’s 70th anniversary scheduled to take place in London on 3 and 4 December. The discussion panel included some of the two Government’s topmost international security experts and representatives of the major research institutes in the United Kingdom, representatives of the private sector and of the Embassies of NATO Countries. The event put forth a strong message on the importance of the stability of the Southern Flank for the collective security of the Alliance and on the relevance of a full-fledged “360 degree” vision of NATO’s modernisation process. “A strong partnership between Italy and the United Kingdom on defence and foreign policy represents a great resource for the future of the Alliance,” said Ambassador Trombetta.
