Undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto spoke today on the phone with Roberto Balzaretti, Swiss State Secretary responsible for European affairs.
In some cases, our cross-border commuters have been asked to stay in Switzerland instead of returning home in the evening, and to change their residence permit from G (border commuter) to L (temporary residence), only to be accommodated under conditions not ideal from a health security point of view.
“I have stressed to the Secretary of State that there is no need to detain cross-border commuters in Switzerland at present since the borders are open and the queues at the crossings have also been drastically reduced as a result of the new measures taken by the Swiss government,” said Scalfarotto. The same Scalfarotto added “Secretary of State Balzaretti assured me that he would raise awareness of this issue among private and public employers.
