As part of Supersalone – the special Salone del Mobile edition – a digital link between Milan and the Berlin design and architecture scene took place yesterday, 9 September, at the Italian Embassy in Berlin in the form of a Conference Day. An event organized in collaboration with Boeri Architetti, Studio Wegwerth and ICE.
The event was divided into a multidisciplinary workshop entitled “The Tomorrow of the Temporary” and a digital link with the Supersalone, opened by Italian Ambassador Armando Varricchio.
“Germany,” Varricchio said, “is one of the main destination countries for Italian furniture. In recent years the value of furniture exports has been stable at around 1 billion euros. However, design is a relevant sector of the Italian economy and defines the Italian lifestyle. ” “Combined with beauty and functionality, with a special attitude to face today’s challenges, design is a showcase of Italy”. An industry – the Ambassador added – “that knows how to use beauty as a raw material”, creativity, an “ability to combine innovation with ancient knowledge, are Italian strengths can distinguish us if combined with new technologies and research on materials”.
After Ambassador Varricchio’s speech, architect Stefano Boeri took the floor and presented the curatorial team, composed of Maria Cristina Didero, Andrea Caputo and Lukas Wegwerth.
