For the first time, the masterpieces from the Capodimonte Museum in Naples are on display in Hong Kong in an exhibition opened on 15 July 2022 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and made possible thanks to the support of the Consulate General of Italy as part of the celebrations for the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism 2022 and the “Italia Mia” Festival 2022.

The exhibition “The Road to the Baroque” will stay open until 2 November 2022 and presents 40 late-Renaissance works from Northern and Central Italy and Neapolitan Baroque masterpieces from the two main nuclei of the Neapolitan Museum: the Farnese Collection and the Bourbon Collection. The collections include the works of legendary masters such as Titian, Annibale Carracci and Artemisia Gentileschi, examples of the Neapolitan artistic heritage from the 16th and 17th centuries, and of the expressive power and elegance of the Baroque which found its capital in Naples.

The Consul General of Italy, Clemente Contestabile, spoke at the opening of the event and highlighted the excellent artistic value of the exhibition which presents the expressive power, spirituality and vitality of the Neapolitan Baroque, and brings the public in Hong Kong closer to the great cultural heritage of Naples. The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hong Kong, Kevin Yeung, attended the ceremony and expressed his strong appreciation for the initiative. The Director of the Capodimonte Museum, Sylvain Bellenger, participated online from Naples.
