In the past few days, a load of medical aid was delivered to Cuba to face the emergency caused by the fire at the “Fuel Supertanker” Base in Matanzas. Over two tonnes of medicines, medical equipment and supplies were collected and delivered thanks to a support and solidarity campaign promoted by different actors of the Sistema Italia, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Cuba, the ITA Agency in Havana, and the Italian Section of the Cuba-Italy Business Committee (CICI).
The supplies arrived in Havana with a flight departing from Milan. The operation was approved by the competent Cuban authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, and the Ministry of Public Health.
A group of Italian entrepreneurs active in Cuba responded to the appeal for the campaign, as well as the AICEC Agency and other institutions and associations that work with the Caribbean Country in different capacities. Apart from this solidarity contribution, a similar contribution was also announced in the past few days by the Italian Cooperation, whereby Italy has joined the EU Civil Protection Mechanism which will take off from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot in Brindisi in the next few days.
