The Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai presents the exhibition “A World of Beauty. Masterpieces from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples” organised by the Shanghai Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which will be open to the public from 21 December 2022 to 9 April 2023.
The exhibition project, with the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, is an event that is part of the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism 2022. The exhibition, divided into three sections – Life and Beauty, Power and Beauty, and Love and Beauty – shows the splendour of Roman civilisation in the 1st-2nd century, through magnificent examples of sculpture, painting, mosaic, bronze and glass art from the Farnese Collection and the archaeological excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii.
The exhibition presents over 70 artifacts that have rarely or, in some cases, never left the Archaeological Museum of Naples, including some absolute masterpieces from the Farnese Collection such as Venus Callipyge, Apollo Citaredo, Asclepius, Aphrodite Crouching with Eros, Athena-Minerva, Aphrodite Leaning and Statue of Lucius Verus.
