The Italian Embassy in Vietnam presents the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, scheduled for Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April at the Hanoi Opera House. For the first time in decades, Hanoi audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy a costume opera.
Organised by the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet and the Hanoi Opera House, and with the support of the Italian Embassy, the initiative is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam.
Cavalleria Rusticana is Pietro Mascagni’s best-known opera. First performed in 1890 and immediately becoming an emblem of Verismo (realism) in opera, it is set in Sicily and stages deep emotions such as love and jealousy. Italian tenor Giovanni Maria Palmia will play the role of Turiddu and perform – conducted by Maestro Fan Ting – together with talented Vietnamese singers, musicians and actors.
