The Special Envoy for the Caribbean Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Uberto Vanni d’Archirafi, went on a mission to Guyana (for the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (for the CELAC Conference of Heads of Government), and Saint Lucia and Barbados (for bilateral meetings).
The Special Envoy’s mission – from the end of February to the first week of March, allowed for strengthening bilateral relations with international partners and discussing new forms of collaboration between Italy and the Caribbean Countries in the Science and Technology sector, more specifically in partnership with the Trieste’s Scientific Hub and the Italian Civil Protection. Climate change and its consequences for the economies of the countries visited were also at the core of the discussions. The Special Envoy also stressed Italy’s positive and active role in organising the next UN Conference on Small Island Developing States, to be held in Antigua and Barbuda at the end of May 2024. In this regard, he highlighted some of the issues faced by the small developing islands of the Caribbean.
