The book by Prof. Christopher Denis-Delacour on the fascinating, so far unstudied history of the first Italian Consuls in 19th-century Saigon has been presented in Ho Chi Minh City, in the historical Ben Nha Rong building.
The presentation of the book, edited by the Consulate General, was attended by Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco della Seta, Consul General Enrico Padula, DOFA Director Tran Phuoc Anh, and Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Archives in Ho Chi Minh City Cu Thi Dung.
The event provided an opportunity to illustrate the historical roots of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy. Indeed, the first Italian Consulate in Vietnam, one of the first in the newly formed Kingdom of Italy, was opened in 1868, more than 150 years ago.
