Program “ITALYOU – Italy in your future”
University education for the promotion of the Italian language and culture worldwide.
Given the importance of cultural diplomacy initiatives within the framework of the Mattei Plan for Africa—particularly the provision of scholarships aimed at:
- establishing strong relationships with young African citizens,
- training students in Italy who, upon completion of their master’s degree, will possess the skills and qualifications necessary to teach the Italian language in their countries of origin—
starting from the academic year 2023–2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) launched a new scholarship program in collaboration with the University for Foreigners of Perugia.
“ITALYOU – Italy in your future” offers scholarships to attend the master’s degree program “ItAS – Italian for Teaching to Foreigners“, held at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. The initiative targets young scholars from the following countries:
- Algeria
- Cameroon
- Egypt
- Ethiopia
- Libya
- Morocco
- Senegal
- Somalia
- South Africa
- Tunisia
The selection process for scholarship recipients is coordinated by the University for Foreigners of Perugia, with the support of its Partner institutions in each of the program’s target countries. Italian diplomatic missions in these countries play an active role in the selection process through designated representatives.
4th Edition – Academic Year 2026–2027
Now in its fourth edition, the program—proven highly successful in promoting Italofonia —confirms the awarding of 70 new annual scholarships worth €8,000 each, disbursed over 12 monthly installments, to students from Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. The scholarships will start on October 1, 2026.
In addition, 64 students from the 3rd edition will be eligible to renew their scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year, provided they have met the minimum academic requirements, namely passing exams worth at least 40 university credits (CFU).
