Internship Opportunities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has an Agreement in place with the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and the CRUI Foundation (Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities) to offer three-month curricular internships at Italian Diplomatic Missions abroad. The internship program aims to complement students’ university studies with hands-on experience that provides first-hand knowledge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s institutional activities abroad.

Given the prominent link between curricular internships and international careers, internships at Embassies, Consulates, and Permanent Missions to International Organizations are intended for students – aged 28 or younger – enrolled in master’s or single-cycle degree programs that allow access to a diplomatic career. Curricular internships at Italian Cultural Institutes are also open to students enrolled in other degree programs, as specified in each call for applications.

Students are entitled to a minimum monthly reimbursement of €300, paid by their Home Universities, unless otherwise specified in the call for applications.

The call for applications for the second cycle of internships for 2025 (May 19, 2025 – August 18, 2025) was published on the website www.tirocinicrui.it  Applications may be submitted via the online application by Thursday, February 27. For further information regarding the minimum requirements and how to participate, interested students should contact the Internship/Placement Office of their Home University and/or the CRUI Foundation.

It is also possible to complete a curricular internship at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Rome. To do so, an agreement shall be signed between an individual University and the relevant Directorate General or Service.
