The Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid is participating in the Week of the Italian Language in the World with a packed programme of events, including literary meetings and concerts. The first meeting, held on 16 October, featured the well-known Italian cartoonist Zerocalcare who shared anecdotes about his artistic career and his approach to comics as a language for telling universal and also highly topical stories with the Institute’s Director Marialuisa Pappalardo. Today, 18 October, a debate with writer Mario Desiati, winner of the 2022 Strega Prize with the book Spatriati, will take place.
On Thursday 19 October, in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy, the Institute will host the concert “Experimental Performance w/ two Harps, light and Visuals” by musician Kety Fusco in collaboration with visual artists Gabriele Ottino and Sharon Ritossa. The performance will be a visual and auditory journey into an impromptu musical dimension, far from the classical canons of the harp and rich in moving images that suggest contemporary themes, with a focus on environmental protection.
On Saturday 21 October, two concerts will be held. In the morning, Moncalieri Jazz, a group of six musicians, will put a jazz spin on famous cartoon theme songs and tunes with their “Cartoons in Jazz”, a performance aimed at children. In the evening, the “Serata con il Moncalieri Jazz” (Evening with Moncalieri Jazz) will be staged, featuring renowned artists of this fascinating musical genre.
The week celebrating the beauty of the Italian language and culture will end on 25 October with a meeting with Italian novelist Gianrico Carofiglio.
