The Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the Sicilian Region, has organised the XI Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, promoting the Mediterranean food and wine culture and the Italian excellences recognised by UNESCO.

The initiative involved Sarajevo, Zenica and Trebinje, with more than 20 Sicilian companies and consortia from the main agri-food supply chains. Professional chefs have offered masterclasses, tastings and street food festivals.

The opening took place on 6 July in Sarajevo, at Tershouse, with B2B meetings. Croatian Trade Minister Staša Košarac recalled Italy’s export role and the agreements with Minister Tajani, while Ambassador Sarah Eti Castellani highlighted the weight of the Italian agri-food supply chain and the value of Sicilian excellence. Finally, the Regional Councillor for Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries, Luca Sammartino, stressed the role of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a gateway to the Balkans. This was followed by IRVO’s (Regional Institute of Wine and Oil) masterclasses on oils, CORFILAC’s (Consortium for Research in the Dairy and Agri-Food Supply Chain) masterclasses on dairy products and an in-depth study on Sicilian wines.

Subsequently, on 7 July in Zenica, the first major street food event dedicated to the Arancina was held and on 8 July, in Sacred Heart Cathedral square in Sarajevo, a show cooking and some stands of Sicilian specialties, including cannoli, were set up. The closure, on July 9 in Trebinje, offered a tasting route on oil and bakery.
