Enel Green Power has opened a new Solar Energy Park in La Loma, of César district, Colombia . It is the largest solar power plant in the country. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to Colombia, Giancarlo Maria Curcio, together with the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro Urrego; Javier Eduardo Campillo, Deputy Minister of Energy; Elvia Milena San Juan Dávila, Governor of César district; and Jesús Alberto Ortiz Hernández, Mayor of the Municipality of El Paso.
In his speech, Ambassador Curcio emphasised the significance – for a leading private Italian company, albeit with public participation – of constructing a plant in favour of the economic and social development of the country, and in line with the common interest in the transition to renewable energies, with products of Italian technological excellence, within the framework of the traditional and close relations of friendship existing between the two countries. Also in view of the 160th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations that is being celebrated this year, he also underlined the solid relations between the two countries, thanks to the presence of compatriots – and today also of Italian companies such as ENEL – who are strongly involved in the country’s development.
President Petro recalled the importance of energy transition with the use of renewables such as the one being inaugurated, and the fact that the country’s decarbonisation is among his priorities.
