As delegated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, Undersecretary Maria Tripodi took part in today’s “Madrid Group+” meeting.
The member countries called for the implementation of the two-State solution, Israel and Palestine, as well as for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and access to humanitarian aid to Gaza. The goal is to reach a political agreement in the Middle East, in view of the High Level Conference to be held in New York next month, promoted by France and Saudi Arabia, in which Italy will also take part.
“It is essential that the international community mobilizes to promote a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East,” Tripodi said, adding that “the Italian Government fully supports the two-State solution and the Arab plan for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, aimed at promoting peace and stability in the entire region.” The Undersecretary finally recalled Italy’s commitment to the humanitarian situation in Gaza through the “Food for Gaza” program, which has already mobilized EUR 35 million, more than 100 tons of food and medical supplies to support the civilian population.
In addition to European and Arab countries, already present at the first Madrid Summit in September 2024, other members of the international community committed to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East took part in the meeting.
