The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, participated today in Assisi at a round-table discussion on the relationship between peace, dialogue and diplomacy, as part of an event organised by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart to mark the 8th Franciscan Centenary.
The Undersecretary emphasised the role of Italian diplomacy in promoting dialogue and supporting international efforts aimed at crisis prevention and resolution. “In an international context marked by conflicts and deep divisions – from Ukraine to the Middle East and Africa – Italy continues to regard dialogue and the search for negotiated solutions as essential instruments of its foreign policy, in defence of international law and the principles of peace and cooperation. This is a message we find particularly powerfully expressed in Pope Leo XIV’s Magnifica Humanitas: faced with the risk that force might supplant the rule of law, international law, dialogue and diplomacy remain essential tools for coexistence among peoples.”
“Peace is always a work in progress. It is an equilibrium to be sought, strengthened and, when necessary, rebuilt,” Undersecretary Tripodi added, reflecting on the significance of the reinstatement of 4 October as a national holiday, as an opportunity to reaffirm a culture of peace and dialogue between States, also through diplomatic action.
