On the occasion of the 79th Anniversary of the Italian Republic, the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires organised the traditional concert for Republic Day at the Italian theatre “Coliseo”, featuring this year’s performance by Vinicio Capossela, one of the most acclaimed and long-standing singer-songwriters in the Italian music scene.
With his concert titled “L’odissea del cocoliche”, Capossela – accompanied by the Argentine accordionist Luciano Tobaldi and his band – paid tribute to notable Italians from various eras (Dante, Michelangelo, as well as Adriano Celentano), highlighting the extraordinary ties between Italian and Argentine culture and their peoples.
The concert was preceded by the traditional institutional ceremony of the Consulate General – hosted this year by the renowned Italo-Argentine sports journalist Cecilia Bonelli – during which honours were awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions within the Italian community and to the relationship between the two countries.
Furthermore, at the initiative of the Consulate General and with the support of Argentine national and local authorities, several important monuments in the capital were lit up in the colours of the Italian flag. Among them, thanks in particular to the support of ENEL, the magnificent building housing the “Palacio Libertad-Centro Cultural Domingo Faustino Sarmiento” in central Buenos Aires was illuminated in the tricolour for the first time.
