The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, spoke today at the States General for Prevention, opened in Naples in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
He highlighted the important work carried out by the Italian Cooperation in the field of health and prevention both at a multilateral level and directly on the ground in partner countries, starting with Africa, where, in the spirit of the Mattei Plan, the government aims to strengthen local health systems, by promoting equitable and inclusive access to services for the population. These are strategic interventions carried out in synergy with Italian civil society organizations, universities and the private sector for more effective and targeted interventions in countries such as the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic.
The Deputy Minister then recalled the close collaboration with the WHO, particularly for migrants’ health, as well as Italy’s important support for the UN Scientific Center in Trieste and for the international coalitions created to prevent and combat the spread of epidemics, such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the GAVI Vaccine Alliance and CEPI, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. The Deputy Minister also underlined the attention with which Italy follows the processes of the WHO’s organizational and budgetary reform, encouraging the enhancement of its efficiency and effectiveness, in synergy with other UN entities.
