At the “Simón Patiño” Cultural Centre in La Paz, Ambassador Fabio Messineo inaugurated the exhibition Inner Territory, a collaborative project by Italian director, writer and playwright Fabrizio Catalano and Bolivian artists Fátima Lazarte and Yefrin Acuña.

The exhibition, open to the public until mid-September, features sculptures and objects either inspired by or used in the Italo-Bolivian film Irregular, produced and directed by Fabrizio Catalano, in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Fátima Lazarte.

The opening evening included a dance performance among the artworks, followed by a screening of the feature film. Irregular had previously represented Italy with great success at the 2024 “Eurocine” festival in La Paz. On that occasion, Ambassador Messineo emphasised that the successful Italo-Bolivian collaboration was yet another testament to the longstanding cultural ties between the two countries.

In her journey through Bolivia’s stunning landscapes and rich diversity, the film’s protagonist interviews indigenous and social leaders, engaging in dialogue on the complex realities of the female experience. Challenging simplistic stereotypes, the film invites the audience to reflect on how society might change if women were more fully engaged in political, social and economic life.
