The Embassy of Italy to the Holy See and the Delegation of the European Union to the Holy See have announced the winner of the 6th edition of the “Ambassadors to the Holy See” Literary Award: “Faith, last hope. Stories of religious figures in conflict zones” by Andrea Angeli (Rubbettino Publishing). The award for emerging writer goes to Lea Amodio, for her work “Mothers of Europe. A journey through the soul and time following the footsteps of ten queen mothers” (Bookabook Publishing).

His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, will attend the award ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, 15 October at 4:00 p.m., at Palazzo Borromeo, the seat of the Embassy of Italy to the Holy See. The ceremony will be followed by a conversation between the winning author and Davide Dionisi, Special Envoy of the Italian Government for the Promotion of Freedom of Religion and the Protection of Religious Minorities in the World, moderated by Dr Giulia Tosana from the Cortile dei Gentili.

Launched six years ago by a group of Heads of Mission, the Literary Award recognises authors of books published in Italian and aimed at the general public, addressing themes such as Christian culture and values, relations between Churches and States, Church history, and interreligious dialogue. The jury is co-chaired by the Ambassadors of Italy and the European Union to the Holy See, Francesco Di Nitto and Martin Selmayr, and is composed of several Heads of Mission proficient in Italian, the vehicular language of the Holy See.

This year, the award ceremony forms part of the 25th “Week of the Italian Language in the World”, involving the Italian diplomatic-consular network and cultural institutes worldwide, under the theme: “Italophony: Language Beyond Borders”.
