The Embassy of Italy in Manama, in collaboration with the Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research, organized the concert “L’Italiano all’Opera” on Monday, 20 October, at the Centre’s auditorium. The event marked the celebration of the 25th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World (SLIM) and of Italian opera singing, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2023.

Two talented Italian artists, soprano Cristiana Arcari and pianist Andrea Vigna-Taglianti, provided an enchanting journey through the tradition of Italian opera, from its origins to the nineteenth century and beyond, including Vivaldi, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, and Puccini, all the way to Tosti, not forgetting a tribute to Ennio Morricone.

In addition to these two exceptional artists, a very young Italian tenor, Alessandro Savastano, a student of St. Christopher’s School, made a special contribution.

The Italian Ambassador to Bahrain, Andrea Catalano said: “The cultural promotion activities of the Embassy of Italy in Manama always place the exchange and encounter between Italian and Bahraini cultures at the centre of every initiative, and with the concert “L’Italiano all’Opera,” held as part of the 25th edition of SLIM, with the theme “ Italofonia: lingua oltre i confini” (Italian: Language Beyond Borders), we wanted to help celebrate the language, cultural, and social dimensions of the Italian language and build a new community of people around the world united by a passion for the Italian language and, through it, by their closeness to our country.”
