The conference “Myanmar – a new Asian frontier”, sponsored by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Development and arranged by the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) and the Asian Observatory, will be held at the foreign ministry in Rome on 23 October. Participants will include Minister Emma Bonino and her Burmese counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin, in addition to former Italian Special Envoy for Myanmar Piero Fassino, the Director of the OECD Development Centre, Mario Pezzini, President of the Technical Committee for the Internationalisation of Confindustria Zegna, ENI CEO Scaroni and President of the “Italy and Burma Together” association Vincenzo Scotti.
The economy of a growing country
The conference will focus on the economy of a country undergoing growth and the opportunities for Italian businesses in some of its key sectors: energy, mechanics, lumber, infrastructure, farming and tourism. The Italian government was among the first to support Myanmar’s initial moves toward democracy and has encouraged reforms.
