The first Italophony Conference opens today. Tajani: “Italian as an instrument for diplomacy, culture, peace, and economic development.”

The first Italophony Conference opens today at Villa Madama. It is a new event designed to strengthen the international role of the Italian language as a vehicle for cooperation and shared growth.

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, along with the Minister of Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, the President of the Società Dante Alighieri, Andrea Riccardi, and the Undersecretary of State for Education and Merit ,Paola Frassinetti, will welcome some international friends of the Italian language, including the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis; the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi; the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia, Matej Arčon; the Romanian Foreign Minister, Oana Toiu; the Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla Schwarz; the Foreign Minister of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali,;the President of NIAF, Robert Allegrini, and the UN Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt.

The initiative aims to bring together institutions and cultural entities with the goal of creating a stable network that promotes the Italian language in the fields of diplomacy, culture, and economics.

During the Conference, the document formally establishing the new Italophony Community will be presented. This collaborative framework aims to strengthen dialogue between the countries involved and support those promoting the study of Italian worldwide. The Conference reaffirms Italy’s commitment to making its language not only a cultural heritage but also an instrument of peace, understanding, and development.
