For the 10th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid celebrated the profound connection between culture, memory, and conviviality. The programme began on Saturday, 15 November, with the opening of the photo exhibition “Il pranzo della domenica. Una storia italiana(Sunday Lunch. An Italian Story) by Marco Panella, a journey into the emotional and collective memory of twentieth-century Italy and a tale of family photographs, rescued from oblivion and restored as fragments of a shared history. The project, promoted by MASAF (Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry) and MiC (Ministry of Culture), was presented at the Annual Assembly of the ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities).

Then, a screening of the movie “Il pranzo della domenica” (Sunday Lunch) by Carlo Vanzina rounded out the opening event, offering the audience a light-hearted and affectionate cinematic representation of the Sunday family ritual.

The day of 16 November was dedicated to showcasing Italy’s food and wine excellence with a convivial gathering that recreated the authentic atmosphere of a typical Italian Sunday meal. Thanks to the collaboration of Rosa Morici of the Allegra Project, guests were able to learn more about the richness of Italy’s regional traditions, exploring the cultural and emotional value that food brings.
