The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will tomorrow present the reform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Villa Madama. The reform will come into effect on 1 January next year. The reform focuses on simplification and innovation, with renewed attention to services for citizens and businesses, ensuring that Italy’s growth remains at the centre of its foreign policy.
Implemented at no additional cost, the reform will create two main branches within the Ministry: political and economic, each led by a Deputy Secretary-General. Alongside the Directorate-General for Political Affairs and International Security, a new Directorate for Growth and Export Promotion will be established. A Directorate for Cybersecurity will also be created to address the growing threat of cyber risks, while the Directorate-General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies will be strengthened.
Within the Secretariat General, a Unit for Simplification and Coordination will be set up to collect suggestions and propose measures to streamline and improve services for citizens and businesses.
The reform will also affect the diplomatic recruitment process and the training of all Ministry personnel. By opening recruitment to graduates from all master’s degree courses, the Ministry aims to broaden its talent pool and attract the best candidates, building on the expanded recruitment that has already started in recent years.
During the event, the new organisational structures and the objectives of the reform will be presented, in light of the current international context and the growing demand for services from citizens and businesses.
