Raphael’s Christ, a triptych by Beato Angelico, Lorenzo Lotto’s Adoration of the Shepherds, Botticelli’s St. Augustine: 57 masterpieces of Italian painting from the most prestigious public and private collections tell the story of our Renaissance for the first time ever in Brazil. The exhibition will run in Sao Paolo through 23 September and move to Brasilia from 12 October to 5 January 2014.
57 masterpieces
The exhibition, curated by Florence superintendent Cristina Acidini, has the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Brasilia and the Italian Culture Ministry, as well as the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, and is being hosted by the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, which is sponsoring the exhibition with the support of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
Schools of Venice, Florence, Milan, Rome, Urbino and Ferrara
The exhibition is divided into 6 sections representing the Renaissance schools of Venice, Florence, Milan, Rome, Urbino and Ferrara, and intends to offer the Brazilian public a clear, in-depth illustration of the Italian Renaissance through these exceptional masterpieces, without limiting itself to main schools such as the Florentine.
Great importance was attached to Italy’s contribution to the exhibition’s realisation (including a pool of experts from the Ministry of Culture and the numerous museums involved), and the inaugural event, whose participants included numerous Brazilian federal and local government authorities and ended with a speech by Ambassador Trombetta.
