Rome–Paris: 70 years of Twinning

On 30 January, the Ambassador of Italy to France, Emanuela D’Alessandro, hosted an official luncheon at the Hôtel de Rochefoucauld-Doudeauville, the Embassy’s headquarters, to celebrate the seventieth anniversary of the unique twinning relationship between Rome and Paris, in the presence of the Mayors of the two capitals.

The event was attended by the Secretaries General of the French and Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Anne-Marie Descôtes and Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, the Ambassador of France to Italy, Martin Briens, as well as numerous representatives from the institutional, political, economic and cultural spheres of both cities.

On the occasion, the artwork “Panorama of Rome as seen from the terrace of San Pietro in Montorio”, painted in 1779 by Louis Le Masson and kindly loaned by the Fondation Louis Le Masson et François Masson – Académie des Beaux-Arts, was officially unveiled. As the Ambassador noted, the work “illustrates how Rome and Paris have, over the centuries, built a relationship grounded in dialogue, culture and shared visions”.

The Ambassador further recalled that the seventieth anniversary celebrations in 2026 will be marked by a rich programme of cultural initiatives, with the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris jointly engaged in the organisation of numerous events.
