A series of events dedicated to Giacomo Leopardi was held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Ababa (February 23-26), organized in collaboration with a large number of Italian and local partners: Casa Leopardi, Recanati; the National Centre for Leopardi Studies; the University of Macerata: RAI Com; the Ethiopian National Theatre; the University of Addis Ababa, and the Italian State School of Addis Ababa.
The Leopardi Days opened with a double screening: the Ethiopian premiere of the movie Leopardi. Il poeta dell’infinito (Leopardi. The Poet of Infinity) by Sergio Rubini was followed by a screening of Mario Martone‘s Il giovane favoloso (The Fabulous Young Man).
The Leopardi Days ended with two events dedicated to a younger audience: Giacomo Leopardi e la Generazione X (Giacomo Leopardi and Generation X), a conversation between Ettore Rufini Leopardi (Casa Leopardi, Recanati) and students from the Italian State School and Italian courses at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Addis Ababa, and a lecture by Gioele Marozzi (University of Macerata) “Giacomo Leopardi per i giovani: la vita dietro le lettere” (Giacomo Leopardi for Young People: Life Behind Literature).
